Pungo Ferry Marina on the North River is the last marina in Virginia and before crossing the Currituck Sound. While the Currituck Sound is no big deal, it can be uncomfortable in a nor'easter. The marina was supposed to be closed Jan 1 2006 on account of the property was under contract to developers for condo construction. Happily that deal appears to have fallen through and I expect the marina will continue. The anchorage south of the bridge is very shallow. There is an old derelict dock directly north of the bridge where boats sometimes dock. I have seen people moored there for a month. James, the dockmaster at the marina is seldom there in the winter but you can tie up there and he usually shows up about sunset. Restrooms are modern and heated and cooled. The restaurant is closed.
My old home. If it's late in the day you better stop here.
